I am a 75 year old ex Royal Marine from Liverpool, UK. I have been seeking the home village of a 16 year old Gurkh soldier who died of his wounds in IRAQ in 1941. Two journies to Nepal and a mountain of letters has left me still trying to locate GARIGAON (GARIGAUN). I will return to Nepal in November 2009. At 1100 hrs on the 11th November I will be playing my pipes in tribute to this ‘forgotten Gurkha’ and all those who have no known resting place. My simple ceremony will be held at The british Gurkha Cemetery, Dharan, Nepal. There will be no great fuss. Just an elderly man saying WE WILL REMEMBER THEM in his own way. No politicians, no celebraties, clergy or generals. Just the lone piper and perhaps a few local Gurkha pensioners.
