Nepal Tourism Year 2011 – Does Australia Know?

Many foreign government spends hundreds and thousands and sometimes even millions of dollars in Australia – marketing, advertising and promoting about their nation as a tourist destination and what a beautiful country it is and their culture, history, civilisation, beaches and mountains, trekking and adventure and there is no other place like it and so much can be done in less than a week and with much affordable low airfares, hotel deals and holiday packages, group discount and many other special offers etc.
Advertising and informing the locals and the nation through the local and national newspaper, media, websites, travel agencies and their official government representatives and offices based in the area.
And it goes beyond the above. Foreign government in Australia do this in multiple ways: Inviting local officials, celebrities, media and journalists to the Embassy for an official dinner or functions hosted by the embassy, business, social function or friendship dinner, cultural program organised by the Embassy or consulate and then officially announcing or informing the special event that will be taking place back in their home country.
Nothing like this was seen or heard from Nepal and the Nepalese officials in Australia about Nepal Tourism Year 2011? Nepalese embassy and the officials in Australia should have done all of the above and more promoting Nepal Tourism Year 2011, liaison and built diplomatic and good working relationship with local officials, newspaper and media and involving Nepalese living in Australia.
So, do the Australians know? The only articles I came across that mentioned Nepal Tourism Year 2011 was in one of the daily Australian newspaper Sydney Morning Herald. No wonder recently one of the politician got slapped back home. Most of the Nepalese politicians and officials, who are in the government post, are so impotent do to anything.
All this happens because those officials didn’t get the job because of their merits, knowledge and understanding or experience about the job. As one of my friend was telling me about a good Nepalese sports person who came first in the national selection game but the person who can third was sent to compete in the Olympic representing Nepal because the third ranked person was a relative of the minister. So will Nepal win the medal? Enough said!

Australia does not know about Nepal Tourism Year 2011!
Last Saturday, when i was reading a newspaper and came across an article and i found out that, a tourist from Australia was welcome at the airport by the Nepalese Tourism Board Officials saying ,”Welcome to Nepal on the Tourism Year 2011!
She was surprised that she doesn’t know about the Tourism Year is being held in Nepal. She didn’t even know about the Tourism Year when she was in India.
