Itahari’s Joy or Sorrow?
Listed in: Nepal, News & Events
Is it a joy or sorrow for Itahari? Everybody feels good when you walk, ride or drive in a wide paved road compared to road that are narrow, like the ones in the hilly region of Nepal, where in many places you will find it difficult to even drive through passing vehicle. Itahari once had narrow roads, expanding to its present day road and stopover system was thought to be the answer to its growing traffic. But, all the side roads later and even today are used by street vendors selling their products in their pusher all around Itahari centre. Wider roads have given drivers license to speed in a city zone, which will only lead to possible accident(s) .

Demolishing houses and properties of the citizen(s) of Itahari and expanding road measuring 55 feet or 82 feet from the centre of the road will not make things better for Itahari. This will not be counted as the development or progress of Itahari.

Instead the government should invest to maintain the present road in good condition and only motorised vehicle be allowed to move in and through it. And the Government should pave the footpath or pavement to 55 feet from the centre of the road or wide enough for tricycle (rickshaw), bicycle (push bike) and people be able to move in and through it. Nothing should stand within this slow traffic area, whether it be stall, ladder, iron stairs, vendors or any object that will hinder the authorised traffic to move in and through it.

Road should be declared as no stopping zone between peak hours i.e. from 7am till 7pm everyday. All loading and unloading should be done outside peak hour i.e. before 7am in the morning and after 7pm in the evening. Any vehicle found loading or unloading during peak hour should be fined as per local (Itahari Municipality) council’s law or rules and regulations.

All the traffic who are not designated to Itahari but only passing through Itahari should be given alternative route. All four major routes and highways should be linked or interconnected with each other outside Itahari centre, simply calling it Itahari bypass. Similar steps should be taken in other towns and cities to avoid cost and tension.
