Nepalese Australian Association is one of the oldest Nepalese organisation in Australia. It began in the mid 1970s with just a handful of Nepalese students who were studying at The Sydney University and the University of New South Wales and of course with the help of some Australians.
The purpose of this organisation was to assist newly arrived Nepalese students, visitors and families. As, there was no Nepalese Embassy, consulate or any official bodies or organisations representing Nepal, it also acted as an unofficial body representing Nepal and Nepalese living in Australia. It also provided information about Nepal to Australians and other nationalities, who were interested to know more about Nepal and Nepalese people and culture and visiting Nepal.
Since the establishment of Nepalese Australian Association, in the mid 70s, there has been massive increase of Nepalese population in Sydney and many other new Nepalese associated communities and organisations has been established. Although, NAA is one of the oldest amongst them, it still believes and has their door open for newly arrived Nepalese.
