Singapore is a tiny city and country in the South East Asia just below the Malay peninsula. It was one of the most important commercial and military power centre of the British Empire in South East Asia. After WW II joined with Malay, Sarawak and Sabah (in Borneo Island) to form Malaysia, but with two years it became separate nation, Republic of Singapore and joined the United Nations. Evern After being an independent nation it still keeps close ties with UK and still recruits Gurkhas as a part of its police force, called Gurkha Contigent. it is also said some Gurkhas stayed in Malay peninsula including Singapore after Second World War. Today, there are not only Gurkhas serving in Singapore but also many more Nepalese working and studying in Singapore. Nepalese Society, Singapore is the first and at present the only Nepalese Community registered with Minsitry of Home Affairs, Singapore. It was officially established on the 10th of January 2008.
Nepalese Society, Singapore is a non-profitable and non-political organisation. Like many other Nepalese communites around the world the purpose of the society is to help and strenghten mutual cooperation among the Nepalese living in Singapore. It promotes, preserve and share Nepalese culture and heritage. It also participate in cultural exchanges with various communities living in this little island country and city of Singapore.
The Society also organises various Nepalese events and cultural activities like New Year, picnic and other activities. Since the Nepalese Society in Singapore is fairly new, it welcomes and is incouraging all the Nepalese and friends living in Singapore to join the organisation.
